"Pensacola Diamonds" - Jr Drum and Bugle Corps - Pensacola, FL.
They were formed out of was left of the Pensacola Sheriff's Parade Corps. They had quit operations in the winter of 1967. In late 1968. Mike Strasser who was Drum Major for Pensacola High School Band. He and I, Tommy Barrett a past member of "St. Lucy's Cadets" became friends. WE gathered up a past member of the "Chicago Cavaliers" and a past member of the "Casper Troopers". (What a combo that was. Three ex Drum Corps people Stationed at Navy Pensacola) We got with the Assistant Band director of Tate High School. We got Free use of Practice halls at a private Christian School. The Sherriff's Department let us borrow Horns and Drums. So while the four of us were the basic Staff. We started teaching the kids. Mean while the MOM'S started making Uniforms. They were just White shirts and Black pants and knee length Black skirts. Each person bought their own. The MOM's made a sash of Silver and Black, and a cummerbund of the same. The wore Black Cowboy Hats and Black shoes. The ladies also made the Flags. Silver Flags with a Black Diamond.
They only competed once. That was at the 1969 Florida VFW States Class B. in Jacksonville. (Which we car pooled to. (about 36 of them.) They came in 2nd out of 4 Corps.
Then the 3 of us Navy guy's got Transferred, and Mike moved on to LSU (Band). With no experienced Drum Corps people to fill all those spot's it fell apart.
