Allegiance was established in 1987, making its first uniformed appearance at the famous Calgary Stampede Parade. The group competed in DCI Class A for three years, its best finish coming in 1989 at ninth.
Allegiance Elite resulted from a 1990 merger of Allegiance and the Calgary Cavaliers. Every summer after the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede, Allegiance embarked on a month-long competitive tour of Canada and the U.S. as the Western Canadian representative to the Summer Music Games. The corps has finished eighth in DCI Class II competition, most recently in 1999.
Allegiance Elite was guided by three main goals:
To help the member understand and portray the development of discipline, responsibility, and leadership as each pertains to the individual;
To develop within the member a greater awareness of the group, including the need for teamwork, self control and cooperation;
To have the member consider the need, use and appropriateness of competition within society. In doing so the member will learn to deal with both successes and failure from a positive viewpoint.
Allegiance Elite was proud of its numerous awards. Perhaps the most cherished was the Spirit of Disney trophy won at the 1997 DCI Finals, presented each year to the top corps in each of the three divisions for excellence in entertainment and music education. Allegiance is also the 1993 and 1997 Canadian National Champions, and the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede ASTCO Cup winners for 1991, 1993, and 1997.
In 2000, the corps expanded its winter program and traveled to Las Vegas to compete in Winter Guard International southwest regional. The drum line placed first in the independent open class, and the color guard was a strong contender, achieving a finalist spot in its first competitive effort. In the winter of 2001, the group visited California. In 2003, the corps finished 17th in DCI Division II/III competition.
Allegiance Elite merged with the Strutters of Edmonton in 2004 to form Fusion.
