Custer’s Brigade Drum and Bugle Corps was originally formed in 1961 and appeared in 1961, 1962 and 1963. The corps was known by their 7th Cavalry blue and gold uniforms.

Custer’s Brigade Drum and Bugle Corps was the main cog in a small local network of corps in Lake County, Illinois, who was originally intended to be feeder corps to Custer’s Brigade. These feeder corps included the Legion Lancers (Wauconda), the Grenadiers (North Chicago) among others. At the end of 1961, these feeder corps were discontinued and combined into Custer’s Brigade in Libertyville.

The corps was sponsored by Libertyville American Legion, Mundelein SAL, North Chicago VFW.

Custer’s Brigade was under the direction of Larry Grabowski as Executive Director and Frank Sosnowski as Corps Commander. Instructors were mainly from ex-Skokie Indians; Joe Atwood (Horn Line), Gene Badel (Percussion) and Lenny Pickarski (Drill)

As the corps developed and got older, the uniforms required replacement and were changed to pure white cadet type along with the corps name was also changed for the next year (1964) to The Brigade.
