Bayou City Blues

The Bayou City Blues was founded in the summer of 1991 by a group of dedicated drum corps fans who wanted to bring the drum corps activity to the Houston area of Texas. Since 1991, the Blues have grown considerably from their original five horn players.

The corps has been very active around Houston, performing in parades and giving standstill performances. Since 1994, the corps has taken a summer tour through the Midwest during the Fourth of July holidays. The Bayou City Blues performs in parades in various Midwestern cities such as Blue Island, Illinois, and Kenosha, Milwaukee, and Racine, Wisconsin. The corps also performed at the 1995 Freedomfest in Milwaukee before 500,000 spectators.

The corps is known for its small but powerful hornlines and its entertaining performances of Texas-style music. The year 2000 saw their first performance in DCA Class A Finals (also their first year to have a color guard), where they gave a strong, well-received debut, placing third. While that has been their only attendance as a full corps
at DCA Finals so far, the corps brings a highly entertaining minicorps every year to DCA's Individual & Ensemble Competition.

Performing primarily in parades and local events, the Blues are over ten years old, making it the longest lasting drum corps in Texas to date, and until recently it had the distinct honor of being the state's only senior drum and bugle corps.
