"The "Golden Eagles" Junior Drum & Bugle Corps of Edward H. Ackerman, American Legion Post #397, Hellertown, Pa. was formed in 1962 as strictly a parade unit. Yearning for field competition, the corps added an all girl color guard in 1967 and competed in ensemble and color guard contests in the Philadelphia area under the sanction of the National Assoc. of Jr. Drum & Bugle Corps and the National Judges Jr. Color Guard and Ensemble Assoc.
Getting a taste of field competition in 1968, by entering the American Legion State Contest in Philadelphia the Golden Eagles continued to compete during the balance of the season in the national circuit.
The corps is under the able leadership of the following:
Bugle Instructor, John Ferraro, Drum Instructor, Bill George, Corps Chm. & Business Manager, Louis E. Bokan.
The Golden Eagles Junior Drum & Bugle Corps will host their third annual Youth On Parade field contest on August 9, 1969 at the Hellertown High School Field in Hellertown, Pa., at 7 PM.
The competing corps will be as follows: Bracken Cavaliers, Bristol, Pa., Phila. PAL Cadets, Phila., Pa., Belvederes, Schuylkill Haven, Pa., Jr. Buccaneers, Hamburg, Pa., Shadettes, Maple Shade, N.J., Silver Lancers, Middlesex, N.J., Lamplighters, Lindenwold, N.J., Stardusters, Pompton Lakes, N.J.. Exhibition by the Golden Eagles of Hellertown, Pa."
