Atlantic Guardian, a junior drum corps, was formed in early 2003 under the auspices of the Portland, Maine, Community Musical Arts. The corps plans to seek support from every VFW and American Legion post in the State of Maine.
They also look forward to performing in parades in 2004.
Guardian is the first drum corps in Portland since late 1970s. The last DCI-competitive Maine corps were the 20th Maine Regiment and the Warriors, from Oakland and Lewiston, respectively, in 1986.
In early 2004, the Guardian leased 24 state-of-the-art brass instruments to start the corps's musical growth at a high level.
