Formed at the end of the 1984 season, Phantom Corps were the last of the many breakaway groups to be generated by the Warrington Scout Band, also known as The Purple Phantoms, from Warrington, UK. Essentially the corps was in fact the same unit but they competed under a new name and new look to achieve greater independence from the town's scout and guide movement.
Although in 1984 the Scout Band had competed in DCUK's Open Class, in 1985 Phantom Corps became an inaugural member of the DCUK A Class circuit. Competing head to head with their
newly formed hometown rival Warrington Corps at the 1985 A Class Finals, they achieved a creditable sixth-place finish.
The following year, Phantom Corps mergeed with another of the town's drum corps, The Sentinels, to become Valley Sound.
