"Let me start this month with a letter I received from the Page Park YMCA Cadets. The Cadets are not a new corps, having been the American Woodmen Cadets. Last year the corps was sponsored by the Page Park Branch of the Y.M.C.A. and a complete reorganization took place. This year the Cadets will be using a new set of Whaley Royce G-F Bugles and Ludwig Drums. They will field 40 or more bugles, 16 drums and a 26 member all-girl guard. Most of the music will be new consisting of "Hang Em High," "La La La," "Long Ships" and "Promises Promises" and others. Music arrangements are by Bill Hightower, Truman Crawford and Larry Carroll. Drum scores by Thurman Thomas. Most of the training is done by a host of junior instructors and former corps members.
The corps will compete in Illinois, Wisconsin and plan to attend the V.F.W. Nationals and American Legion Nationals.
The Cadets are co-sponsored by The St. Louis Council V.F.W. and Tom Powell Post No. 77 of the American Legion. They are also the present Missouri State Legion Junior Champions.
Our thanks to Mr. Vincent Saunders for this information."
