The Quest Junior Drum and Bugle Corps was founded in September, 1990, in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York, by five men dedicated to the growth and development of young people through the performing arts.

Significant challenges appeared in their path right from the beginning, but instead of giving up, the five men added a sixth, a man with significant drum corps experience. That man is Ashley Crummy, once the co-director of the Manhattanaires Senior Drum and Bugle Corps. To the founders’ delight, Mr. Crummy had held on not only to the senior corps’ instruments but to the uniforms as well.

Early on, each founder agreed to bring in as many kids as possible. The initial number of potential corps members was fourteen, but that number quickly doubled. Practice sessions were held in housing complex basements around the city. Unfortunately, the sound was too loud for the neighbors, so practice had to be relocated to city parks. Eventually Mr. Crummey received permission from the Salvation Army Church, where he holds the rank of Major and Assistant Pastor, to practice there. QUEST finally had a home.

In the spring of 1991, QUEST proudly marched down Fifth Avenue in its first parade, sporting 20-year-old horns (older than many of the marchers) and 12-year-old uniforms originally fitted for adults. But by the end of the parade route, a dream turned into a reality. We would be forever.......QUEST!

Still active more than ten years after this first parade, QUEST competes in DCI Division III. In 2002, the corps finished 24th in Prelims, and has not competed since.
