CORPS Photos

St. Vincent's Cadets was a junior marching and maneuvering corps based in Bayonne, New Jersey. Originally founded as a Boy Scout corps before 1942, the corps' evolution into a marching entity corresponded with its sponsorship by the Jay-Herbert VFW Post.

The green and white-clad group captured the New Jersey State VFW Championships five times, the first in 1943. At one time the corps organization encompassed five different groups, three male and two girls (no coed groups during the war years), serving some 300 young people. In 1947 the Albert L. Quinn Post of Jersey City sponsored a boys' group and a girls' group, one of which took the state American Legion title.

St. Vincent's heyday came in the late 1940s and 1950s, when they captured an (almost) consecutive string of eight VFW Junior National Championships, the last in 1956, and two American Legion National Championships.

The acme of consistency in 1959, the corps' scores varied only from 85.20 to 89.60 in 22 contests all season long.

Robert Rohan was a bass drummer with St. Vincent's in the 1950s. Rohan was the first African American inducted into the New Jersey Drum Corps Hall of Fame, in 2004.

The corps was active through at least 1961.
