| Scenic City rekindles the memories of childhood with a program dedicated to the music we grew up with. This program, called Thank God for Kids, contains songs that make up the foundation of our childhood, along with performances of music from beloved children's TV classics and music celebrating childhood and children all over the world. The show is a celebration and it starts with a high-energy rendition of the Jackson 5's Motown classic ABC. An enduring children's classic follows with the theme from the children's TV show, Sesame Street. The program has been a staple of PBS's children's programming since it's beginnings in 1966, and have made the names Big Bird, Kermit and Oscar household names across the country and around the world. The lilting strains of A Childhood Hymn follow leading the program into Linus & Lucy, from the soundtrack of the Peanuts classic holiday special, A Charlie Brown Christmas. This song, originally recorded for the program by Vince Guaraldi Trio, is instantly recognizable by those who have grown up watching the Charles Schultz animated classic for the last 35 years. Finally the show ends with an electric rendition of Thank God for Kids, tying the show's theme together and reminding us all that from generation to generation, there is nothing so precious and magical as the childhood experience. |
